The second-grade students celebrated their hard work at their Pollinator Celebration. They started by performing a song and then they shared the oral presentations that they created to teach about a pollinator that they learned about. Their posters included flower models and scientific drawings showing the pollination process. They did an amazing job teaching their audience!

Give it a Try at the Y Recently, all Juniors and Seniors were able to take part in the "Give it a Try at the Y" fitness exploration day where they had the opportunity to be introduced to different activities that promote a healthy, active lifestyle and can be done through adulthood. Mrs. Winker reports that there were a lot of smiling and sweaty faces during and after the event, and besides the high schoolers losing to the instructors in pickleball, fun was had all around! Shoutout to Holly and Bailey at the YMCA for organizing the space, volunteers, and snack, as well as the following instructors who led classes for the students: Amie Brey (yoga), Chris Heil (body pump), Eric Schroeder and Stephan Reynolds (spin/cycle), Owen Alabado (cardio kickboxing), Bill Reifsnyder and friends (pickleball). Also thank you to Rob Rericha who transported us unexpectedly due to the rain, snow, and ice. Thank you!

First graders and their families enjoyed an info-packed program called Hunters of the Sky. Sandor Bittman of Open Door Bird Sanctuary taught the students about birds’ adaptations for survival. Mrs. Hoyerman shares, "Students connected their recent classroom learning with new information. The guest birds were a hit as they screeched and hooted for the audience."

Happy National Athletic Training Month! Gibraltar High School is fortunate to have Dave Stahlke as its full-time athletic trainer. Thanks to an incredible partnership with Door County Medical Center, this collaboration provides student-athletes with FREE athletic training to maintain health, prevent injuries, and perform at their best. Dave holds a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from Minnesota State University, Mankato, and a Master's in Athletic Training from Illinois State. He is a nationally-certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA. Gibraltar Principal and Athletic Director, Jim DeBroux, shares, “Dave Stahlke brings experience, expertise, passion and dedication to his athletic training role at Gibraltar! He has experience at the olympic, collegiate and professional level and yet seamlessly makes connections with small school high school students! He builds connections with students by sharing a story and a laugh and always offering his insightful expertise. He scoffs at the idea of a three hour bus trip to a tournament game being TOO long to come and join and support the Gibraltar Vikings! This happens when you are used to being a minor league hockey trainer and bus rides that are twice that long! Dave is an amazing member of our athletic department! Thank you for keeping our student athletes safe, strong and growing!” Thank you, Dave, for keeping our athletes strong!

On Thursday, March 6 at 3:15pm, Gibraltar/Washington Island Vikings senior catcher, Brady Kita, officially signed a commitment letter to join the baseball program at St. Norbert College this fall. The event took place in the Gibraltar Secondary lobby. Brady will be a four-year starter as the catcher for the Gibraltar/Washington Island Vikings baseball team this spring. He has been a strong hitter throughout his career with a career batting average of 0.448. In his junior year, he led the conference in hitting with a 0.528 batting average. He also had 28 stolen bases and scored 46 runs. The Vikings finished the season with a Packerland Conference Championship, Regional Championship, and advanced to Sectionals in tournament play. Brady was named the North East District D4 Player of the Year, along with All-District Honorable Mention Catcher, and Packerland Conference 1 st team Catcher. As a sophomore he was Packerland All-Conference 1 st team Catcher and All-District Honorable Mention Catcher. As a freshman, the team won a Regional Championship and he was voted Packerland Conference 2nd team catcher. Quote from Coach Jay Kita. “Brady is a solid team player and loves to see his teammates achieve greatness! He is a very good hitter and a pretty patient hitter. On the base paths, he can read the pitchers very well and as a result, he steals a lot of bases. On the defensive side as a catcher, Brady is one of the best I’ve seen in high school. His blocking skills and his ability to call a game are unbelievable. He is very solid behind the plate.”

FUN WITH MATH! Students in 4th grade created their own miniature golf hole to learn about perimeter. After proving they could find the perimeter of their design they were able to get supplies to create a boarder. Some students chose clay while others used crafting sticks or pipe cleaners. After they were finished, they were able to play their holes using a small golf ball and a putter. Thank you Mr. Burress for engaging and fun learning practices.

Gibraltar High School Musical presents DREAMLAND AREA 51 Dreamland Area 51 is a musical riff on Shakespeare’s "A Midsummer Night’s Dream", set during the declassification of Area 51. Now, who thought it would be a good idea to give a group of high school honor students free reign in a top military base two days before it opens to the public? Will there be aliens? Maybe. A show choir? Definitely! This is an over-the-top B-movie style musical comedy that blends contemporary musical theatre pop with the smooth sounds of the 50’s. Dreamland Area 51 runs Friday, March 14 and Saturday at 7:00 and Sunday, March 16 at 2:00. Tickets can be purchased through the Door Community Auditorium box office, at the door, and from any cast member. Students and seniors (62+) only $5.00. Adults $10.

A TRIBUTE TO PEGGY! For thirty-one years, in blue and gold, A legend stood—both fierce and bold. Through every game, through wins and strife, Peggy poured in her heart and life. As Athletic Director, she ran the show, With boundless energy, all aglow. Officials knew, from far and wide, With Peggy as host, there’s no better guide. And oh, that laugh!—a burst of light, Echoing through each Friday night. A cackle, a giggle, a booming delight, Turning our bad days big and bright. Her hugs? Unmatched!—a Peggy embrace, Wrapped in warmth, love, and grace. A safe haven for kids in need, With wisdom, care, and words to heed. To students, she was so much more— A mentor, a mom, an open door. A sideline coach, a life adviser, A hug supplier, a dream inspirer. Her principles? As strong as stone, Her love? As deep as roots have grown. Her family first—her grandkids shine, Yet every kid, she claimed as "mine." But this goodbye? Oh, not for long, We know we’ll see her—she’s far too strong. At games, at school, at local sights, Her laughter still will light our nights. So here’s to Peggy—our rock, our friend, A legacy that will never end. Though she may take a step away, Mama Tanck is here to stay.

CONGRATULATIONS MIKALA GORHAM! Tuesday night, in the last girl's basketball game of the season in a playoff game in Niagara, Mikala Gorham needed 11 points before the game to hit the 1000 point mark for her 4 years at Gibraltar on the Varsity basketball team. She ended up with 13 points on the night and hit the 1000 mark exactly with a free throw in the second half of the game. Photos by Ryan Gallant
